Classic Climbs in "The Natural State"
 
Opportunities for climbing abound in "The Natural State" and Ozark Outdoor can guide you to some of the best places in Arkansas. Novice and experienced climbers can fine-tune and test their skill in any of the following hot spots around the state.
 
Sam's Throne
Located in Northwest Arkansas, Sam's Throne is a traditional climbing area good for all ability levels. It is located in the Ozark mountains about three hours north of Little Rock. 
Directions:
Take Hwy 7 North to 123, on 123 go approximately eight miles past the town Lurton, and Sam's Throne will be on the left.
 
Mount Magazine
Sport climbers of all ability levels will enjoy this local hot spot. Mount Magazine is the highest point in the state and has 90 established routes with the added advantages of camp sites, mountain biking and hiking trails, as well as hang gliding.  
Directions:
Take Hwy 10 West to Havanna and go North on 304. Mount Magazine is just south of Paris.
 
Shinall Mountain Shinall Mountain
Perfect for top roping and sport climbing, Shinall Mountain is located in Central Arkansas. Whether you're a beginning climber or have intermediate skill, this crag is a great climb. For more information on Shinall, contact Ozark Outdoor.
Directions:
Take highway 10(Cantrell) west to Chenal Parkway. Turn left (south) on Chenal Parkway . Stay on Chenal Parkway until the top of the hill (approx 1-1 ½ miles; road becomes 4-lane from 2-lane). Turn right (west) onto Chenal Valley Dr. and go 4/10 of a mile,  then turn right (north) on unmarked blacktop street. Proceed another 4/10 of a mile until you get to where the power lines cross the road. Park here and the crag is to the Northeast approximately 1/8 mile (follow trails to crag).
